YOU ARE NOT ALONE xoxo
Why is it that in our communities we turn a cheek to mental illnesses? We allow things like our peers or our religions to dictate what's the right thing to do. Not having the proper knowledge on these things lead to other things like substance abuse and suicide. Let us bring awareness to these silent creeping killers that we must contain!
Some of the most common mental illnesses are depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia, and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). These are just to name a few that are hidden around us. Now granted a lot of people can handle a little in traffic anxiety. But when a mental illness is affecting your life, and the people in it, then it is time to look for some solutions. I found this awesome website that goes in depth on some mental health conditions and how to seek assistance for them. https://www.nami.org/Learn-More/Mental-Health-Conditions
Growing up one of my favorite aunts came to live with us for a while. She was bi-polar, I didn't even know she took medication until she wasn't. Seeing her off medication showed me firsthand why she needed to be on them. Being someone who doesn't believe in the pharmaceutical companies too hard; I can still appreciate the help of the pharmaceuticals that assist a lot of people with mental disorders. I am a firm believer of alternatives and moderation. In the sense being, the less pills you have to take the better. I am not a doctor, and everyone is different. Find what works best for you. First thing is first, admitting there is an issue, getting help then see how you are able to level things out to your liking. Not everyone needs a bunch of pills, some just need a therapist, or to just remove some toxic people from their lives; maybe pick up some breathing techniques and a hobby. If something like actual medication is needed, make sure you are not abusing them. The goal is finding the issue and fixing it to have more control of your life.
Not shining light on these type of issues leads many people into substance abuse. Drugs are not hard to find, if you have money it's like those suckers just appear where wanted. Mix of alcohol, drugs, even your own pills to control your mental illnesses fall in the enemy category. I've seen someone in and out of withdraw from pain killers, it is so bad but not impossible to stop. I know that most people need professional help to knock the monkey all the way off the back (kick the habit). Some people get a sense of power from abusing these substances; it's like dodging a bullet. Others don't even realize how deep in they are until they're there. You have to tap into your head and ask yourself if you want out of that lifestyle; if you do then seeking help is next. These are some reasons why we need to speak on mental conditions. It's easy to grab a bottle of liquor or pop a pill, be numb to things. What you don't realize is how much more you'd have without the extra parties present. Find balance and less amicable behavior for things that do you harm.
Life is extremely hard, shit does not always go as planned, and it always gets tougher before it gets smoother. That does not mean you are better off lifeless. You are beautiful, loved and needed. You truly do not know the impact you have on someone's life everyday. You will hurt someone that loves you so much if you leave them here without you. Confession time, I've been in the dark place of wanting to leave this life. It was the lowest and darkest time of my life; I thank God all the time for snatching me up from that. Suicide does not have a face to it, it is not always openly depressed or verbal about death even. Sometimes it is the person who is always happy and there for others, mental illnesses do not prey on specific groups of people either. We have to find ways to speak on this more to help save lives. 1800-273-8255 or text 741-741
We have to always check on our loved ones. We have to especially check on family and friends juggling mental illnesses. The mind is very powerful, some of us just need an extra hand controlling everything upstairs. Make sure you are truly loving yourself and always working on bettering yourself mentally and physically. Surround yourself with people that radiate love and hard work all the time. Let us bring more awareness to the silent creepers; let us control mental illnesses while ending substance abuse and suicide. Remember to always Love and allow to be loved.
